August 2026: rewilding
Each month, we break down our topic into four weekly modules. Catch up on previous editions here.โ
This week's module: DREAM

- LEARN | learn about movements to rewild the world like depaving and more, including rewilding in urban spaces
- ACT | actions you can take asap for a wild future no matter where you live
- REFLECT | Art, poetry, and commitments
Estimated reading time: 3 minutes
Here's what we'll learn today Reader
Hi! If you've been keeping up with all my family news, MY BABY NEPHEW IS OFFICIALLY GRADUATING FROM THE CARDIOVASCULAR ICU TODAY!! He was born three weeks ago, got open-heart surgery two weeks ago, and is now recovering well enough to go down to the main floor.
Every time a new baby pops into my life and into this realm, I find myself getting really emotional about the world we're building. Of course, it's scary (especially now; I'm writing to you from a smoke-choked Seattle). But it also reminds me extra big that we cannot give up.
I think about my lil guys baby Asher and baby Kai and baby Immy every day, and not-so-much babies Siya and Stella and Florence and Caden, and I kinda think we should start doing a "babies of Soapbox" roundup. If you're comfortable sending a pic of your baby to 8,000 strangers on the internet, send it along for "reasons we can't give up."
One way or another, we've got to make it through.
On that note, our August theme is rewilding. How do we bring more connection and greenery and wildness to our world, while also being conscious about the urban infrastructure we need to build?
That's what we'll explore this month, and today, I have some conversation/imagination prompts for you to take into the world about being connected, and wild, and feral.
NEW: I did the math on our donations and this is what I found
If we had 350 people donate at our default $28/month tier (or $350 a year), we would fully fund our annual general operating costs!! This is huge, especially because there are 8,000 of you on here! If you've been enjoying these Changeletters and want to support the larger movement of building joyful community spaces for climate action, I would love your support. It is so cool to have a path for a fully grassroots nonprofit so I can spend my time on doing the work instead of begging funders for money. (Get your work to match it too.) If you have a donor advised fund, it's extra easy to contribute <3

Your bite-sized action plan Reader
Here are some questions for you (shoutout Medha):
- When is the last time you felt truly wild or even feral? What was the activity, or setting, or state of mind you were in?
โ
- When do you feel disconnected in your day-to-day life from yourself, from nature, and/or from others? Are there any common themes you find?
โ
- When you feel disconnected, how do you reconnect with yourself, others, or the world around you? How long does this take? What does it look like?
โ
- Based on this reconnection, what are some ways you can bring these glimmers of wildness into your day-to-day lives?
โ
- What are some long-term imagined futures, especially in terms of structures you can put into place? One way to think about this is if you could completely redesign a day in your life or a block in your neighborhood for wildness and connection, what would it look like?
Your homework this week is to actually discuss these with another human, preferably in person. Have a friend over for tea on the patio. Forward these email and say "u up? come over?" to your crush. Call your mom and ask her these questions (hi Amma I know you read all of these and I look forward to discussing)
Your other homework is to find a moment this week of being wild.
LET'S BE FERAL AS HECK,
Nivi <3

Nivi
