Here's what we'll learn today Reader
Happy August!
Whether you're going back to school, taking a vacation, or living your everyday reality, I hope life is treating you well.
I'm not in the mood to write a long intro because I wanna go to the farmers market, and my behavior is actually quite good for our August topic: planetary x personal health!
This month, we'll explore how the climate crisis intersects with our health. (Can we even separate the two?) Climate change is one big health scare, and we've gotta get proactive about it.
As usual, we're kicking off with our CONNECT module that gives you questions to take into your life to discuss with your fellow humans. (Please discuss them so they don't live and die in your inbox. That would be so sad. Thank you Ciara for the questions!)
Ok I'm off to the market; your prompts are below!
P.S. if you go on a healthy adventure this month however you define it, tag us @soapboxproject on Instagram!
We can't do this without you Reader
A wee lil note: if you enjoy getting these Changeletters and you would like to make a gift of reciprocity, a $9 contribution would go such a long way. Especially if you make it monthly! 100% of this work is me sitting behind my keyboard stressing about if anyone cares about this stuff, so encouragement and financial support is so greatly appreciated!
Thank you Tukey! AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY NIKITA!!!

CONNECT with these conversation prompts
Every CONNECT module, youβll get up to four prompts to connect with yourself, others, spirit, and systems.
Your mission is to take whatβs in these Changeletters and bring it into one of those dimensions.
These are great conversation starters for friends who don't consider themselves "climate people," which is wild to me, because if you like going outside and breathing air, are you not a "climate person?"
- How do you think about the intersection of planetary and personal health? Do you think they can be separated? What would be different if we thought of ourselves more as animals within an ecosystem, vs. as humans against the natural world? How has the climate crisis been personally affecting your health?β
β
- How does nature improve your health? As a surprise to no one, living near greenspace can slash your depression. This TIME article reports that participants in a restoration pilot experienced a 51% drop in feelings of worthlessness! What are some specific memories you have of engaging with the world around you and how that improves your outlook on life?
β
- What are some community interventions in your area that are promoting positive environmental and personal health practices? Food forests? Farmers markets? Community acupuncture? Check out this story from Chicago about food as medicine!β
β
- What would be one indicator that shows you WE DID IT: we've improved towards the future we dream of?β
β
Those are your four questions for today! I hope you have some fruitful discussions with humans in your life. As always, report back with anything you'd like to share!
Team earth forever,
Nivi
