Feb 2026: AI, tech, and its climate implications
Each month, we break down our topic into four weekly modules. Catch up on previous editions here.โ
This week's module: ACT
- CONNECT | Dream about a future where AI doesn't eat all our resources and actually we use technology for our purposes
- LEARN | What are some challenges and impacts of AI we need to get ahead of?
- ๐ฏ ACT | How can we create an AI resilient future?
- REFLECT | Art, poetry, and commitments
Estimated reading time: 3 minutes
Here's what we'll learn today Reader
Before drafting this Changeletter, I just watched a meme that was "Asserting my dominance over Ai by running a 5k around a food delivery robot" and it truly fueled my will to live. (Here it is on IG)โ
I just really, truly, from the bottom of my heart, think that Al is no match for human creativity. (AND IN MY OPINION it's not supposed to be. Like I'd be fine with it doing my dishes yknow??)
People love to say "no, not yet, but it will be soon," but the thing is. Humans are unhinged and silly and make really stupid stuff for the purposes of laughing and crying and being in awe.
Like this "Hunger Games but Better" video that I fully thought was from the 2010s but is actually from THREE MONTHS AGO LOL.
Anyway, I'm feeling hopeful this week about people power, and if you don't do any of the actions I so painstakingly curated for you, please at least laugh or make someone laugh.
โToday's ACT module is all about creating an AI-resilient future, so let's get to it!
Two quick things that should be on your radar:

Your bite-sized action plan Reader
โ
ACT with these 7 bite-sized pathways for a better world.
- This month, whenever you consciously use AI, ask yourself what am I doing with the time I've saved? This is a simple bite-sized action that can become a daily practice. At Soapbox, we're not just here to โจfight climate change.โจ We're here to build the world we deserve to live in, and it's thoughtful, intentional, and gives us time and space for joy. Whenever you save time, what's the point? Think of this as your daily two-minute action.
โ
- Check in on a friend (especially if they've had a major life change). Many people are using AI chats as therapy, and based on conversations I've had with people I love, I am 100% sure more of your friends are doing this than you think. Send a text to one person you've been meaning to check in on. The one who's had a baby, the one who lost someone, the one who moved to a new place. Do it right now.
โ
- โ
โ โ โ Did you do it?^^ โ โ โ โ โ โ
- Did you??
โ โ โ โ โ Ok let's continue. โ โ
- Take 60 seconds to sign this petition, led by Amazon workers, for a responsible AI future. You can sign it as an Amazon worker OR a solidarity supporter; if you have friends in tech, get them to sign.โ
โ
- Get looped in with ClimateVoice or another cross-company advocacy group. I'm on the board of ClimateVoice and I love them so I'm super biased, but their campaigns like Escape the Chamber are brilliant, high-leverage ways that get companies to take action, not just make empty commitments. The problem with AI isn't AI; it's the intentional hemmorraging of our resources and attention from a handful of tech billionaires with bad bone structure and smooth brains.
โ
- Pass your own AI bill! (And keep kids safe!) Super duper upset I didn't learn about this until... right now, but there's a group called Transparency Coalition AI that created four model bills that you could pass for AI safety and transparency!! This is beyond cool because I'm always like ugh how does a Regular Person Do Stuff and they just MADE A BILL FOR YOU to take to your reps! This website also has a ton of resources on generative AI use that parents and anyone who works with kids should be aware of. Maybe passing a whole bill isn't a bite-sized action, but for today, you can simply request the model bill that appeals to you most.
โP.S. this org is US-based but I think the resources can be globally helpful. โ โ
- โJoin your local chapter of 350.org. 350 is a great place to plug in for global fossil fuel resistance via local action, and many chapters are taking on the growing data center and resource extraction challenges. Put their next event on your calendar.โ
โ
- โDonate to Soapbox! We out here trying to do our best to be human in a world that makes it veerrryyyy hard. Our resources take time and money and tears to put together and everything goes a long way. I will also accept the following donations: giant hourglass, delightful meme, fender for my bike, new pair of Brooks shoes, compliments
