Here's what we'll learn today Reader

Hi, it's me, still writing to you from March because present-Nivi is on vacation. There's a good chance more ๐Ÿ’ฉ has hit the fan since I left. So if the tone of this email doesn't match what's happening in your reality, sorry, I didn't know how to do that with time travel.

Against all odds, I hope you're having a great week, I hope you're live laugh loving with people who love you back, and I hope you've found a reason to laugh out loud today.

It's our LEARN module on corporate accountability today and I'm excited to get into some success stories of holding corporations accountable!

The video I found honestly gives me so much hope for what we can do when we work together. Like they say in the LEGO movie, everything is awesome when you're part of a team.

A lil note ๐Ÿ’š

Hello hello! If you enjoy the work we're doing at Soapbox through these Changeletters and more, pleeeasse consider contributing. This is how I make my livelihood and pay my rent (and my team!) and I would appreciate any support you can give.

Love,

Nivi

Your bite-sized action plan Reader

โœ… LEARN how to organize your workplace and why unions matter for corporate accountability

Today's video is on why unions are good and cool (and how to get one in your workplace).

I love that this creator breaks down that unions are about strategic sabotage when they're needed as a tool for power-building.

Many folks who read this Changeletter work in tech and may not see themselves as workers, but we ARE! And we hold the reins of power that, when organized, can make or break companies! Yes, even in the age of AI or [insert other excuse].

But the thing in many corporations right now is, when you think of organizing as an employee, you're probably thinking of affinity groups or ERGs or whatever they're called at your company.

This is not a union.

This is usually a corporate-sanctioned pizza party designed to make you feel better about your job rather than changing your job.

Watch this video for some wins and some strategies, and next time you head to your employee resource group meeting, talk about how to unionize.

Step 1: figure out if your company already has a union you're not part of. Join it.

โ€‹Here's a resource on how to start a union that was mentioned in the video.โ€‹

But seriously, this video is excellent for anyone thinking about strategies for change.

A few other learning tidbits I wanted to offer:

Alrighty! See you next week.
