Here's what we'll learn today Reader
Hello! If all has gone as planned, I am writing to you from the future. This is Nivi of March 2026, via a scheduled Changeletter, because I am ON VACAAATIONNNNNN!
Theoretically, I am off in the Balkans.
In reality, I could be anywhere. Who knows what the geopolitical situation holds for me?!
My hope is I'm currently dilly dallying in a lake or at a thrift store. Please send your best wishes to future Nivi. No, in your case, that would be present Nivi.
Mad respect to anyone that writes time travel stories, because I can barely keep track of it in this teeny little intro.
Aaanyway. Welcome to April 2026's theme: corporate accountability.
By now, most of us know that corporations are largely responsible for the extractive practices that drive greenhouse gas emissions and cause climate change. HOWEVER. It doesn't really help when we use corporations as scapegoats (or like, what's the word for a scapegoat that is indeed on bad behavior?).
Because guess what? WE ARE ALL PART OF CORPORATIONS whether through work or something else. Like literally as you read this newsletter you're likely interacting with AWS (Amazon Web Services) and whoever hosts your emails (like Google Cloud).
That's why this month, I'm hoping we can engage meaningfully with the question of what does it mean to create accountability and systems transformation through the lens of corporate power? We'll be addressing about employee-driven change and corporate social responsibility later this month too.
It doesn't matter if you're a "reform the system" or "burn it all down and start over" because even in the latter scenario, you still have to consider how to make sure we don't replicate the harms caused by corporations.
So let's begin with our connect module where we take some big brain questions and put them to the test.
And by "we," I mean, I wrote you some questions and I need you to actually talk about them. Tell me how it goes! You can also tag us always on IG @soapboxproject.
A lil note π
Hello hello! If you enjoy the work we're doing at Soapbox through these Changeletters and more, pleeeasse consider contributing. This is how I make my livelihood and pay my rent (and my team!) and I would appreciate any support you can give.
Love,
Nivi

CONNECT with these conversation prompts to reimagine a solarpunk world where we have a different relationship with money
I'm tweaking the way I share CONNECT questions. Instead of breaking them down across dimensions (self, others, systems, and spirit), I'm going to hold those themes but share them in order of a conversational progression.
This way, if you're having a chat with a friend or hosting a party or generally want to bring these into your life, this is the suggested flow you can use to connect on corporate accountability.
The lightbulbsπ‘ signify ways to go deeper.
These are the kinds of conversations we have at Soapbox, in person in Seattle and Portland, but also online.
If you've been wondering how to join our membership community, check it out here.β
- What is your relationship to corporate power? β
β
π‘ For example: do you work at a company? do you own a company? do you own shares? do you buy products? do you boycott? do you invest?
β
- During the course of your lifetime, how have you seen the role of corporations change? What changes have you seen in yourself, your family, and your community in relation to this?
β
- We talk a lot about the ways in which we're unhappy with corporations' role in society. But what do you WANT? β
β
π‘ Imagine that YOU get to set the vision for how corporations belong in our world. A hundred years from now, in 2126, in your city, people are living in the systems you create at this table.
β
- What are the choices YOU need to make to build this future? How does that pertain to some of the roles you talked about in the first question? What are the obstacles that will be in your way? Whom do you need to form alliances with to overcome these?
I hope you find some time this week to go on a walk with a friend or host your neighbors for dinner or bring these questions up in some meaningful way.
I put a lot of thought into this because so many people ask how do we talk about climate change?!!? and the answer is...you gotta just start. And you can't always have the goal of educating someone. Sometimes the key is to imagine a future you can both share in on, and that's what these questions are for.
Love,
Nivi
