Here's what we'll learn today Reader
Hello friendo!
I can't believe it's May already (do I say that at the beginning of every Changeletter? Maybe. But it's always true idk)
The week began with a delightful treat: Soapbox NYC's plant-based supper club in partnership with Amrut and Rethink Food was featured in one of our FAVORITE PUBLICATIONS! Check it out in Atmos Magazine! (Shoutout to Roopa's genius brain and generous spirit)
Since the last time I chatted with you, Soapbox also supported DC's first-ever marketplace of the future, had a mind-boggling Dream Sessions concert at Soapbox Seattle, and got CPR trained. Looootsss of stuff is happening this month, and we're still accepting applications for our Seattle community lead. Fun!
This month's topic is sports, pop culture, and sustainability.
Sports unites us like no other. You can be on the same team with totally different political views and worldviews, cheering for the same goal (literally), and being proud in your enthusiasm. The sports industry, and pop culture in general, can also be highly problematic in driving waste and consumerism. There's a lot going on.
That's why, this month, we'll start with the meta-level of asking is climate action a sport through today's CONNECTION module, and then move on to some of the more tactical stuff during our LEARN segment next week.
After that, we'll ACT with some things you can do individually and collectively, and wrap it all up at the end of the month with our REFLECT module.
What if climate action was the most popular sport in the world? (Is it a sport?)
How would that change things?
How can we build our team?
More questions await you!

CONNECT with 4 prompts on your role in changemaking
Every CONNECT module, youβll get up to four prompts to connect with yourself, others, spirit, and systems.
Your mission is to take whatβs in these Changeletters and bring it into one of those dimensions.
- What IS a sport? (Is golf a sport? Is chess a sport? Is pro wrestling a sport?) important: this question does not work if you do it alone. discuss it with some real humans!
β
- Have you played a sport? Do you watch a sport? How has this shaped your character and worldview?β
β
- What is it about sports that makes people feel something? What can sports teach us about organizing, human connection, mass movements, and taking action?
The whole point of today's CONNECT module is to take these out of your inbox and into the world, whether that's through going on a walk and thinking about how you connect with the place you live, posing this question to a friend, or getting to know yourself a little bit better.
Next week will LEARN about some more tactical stuff: mirror neurons! the whopping amount of waste NFL games produce! athletes who advocate for environmental stewardship! soooo many areas for circularity!
But that's it for today, so go forth and ponder your questions in community with other people. And no, your dog doesn't count. Go talk to a human, touch grass, etc.
TEAM EARTH FOREVER,
Nivi
