March 2026: the power of your money
Each month, we break down our topic into four weekly modules. Catch up on previous editions here.β
This week's module: CONNECT
- CONNECT | Dream about a future where money looks different
- LEARN | Is voting with your dollar actually a thing? Let's talk about consumer power (and lack thereof)
- ACT | Actions to make your money powerful (but like, for the Earth and for good stuff)
- REFLECT | Art, poetry, and commitments
Estimated reading time: 3 minutes
Here's what we'll learn today Reader
Hi. Confession.
For a year now, I've kept a secret from you.
Weird, right, because I'm constantly updating you on alllll sorts of stuff every week? WEELLL.
For the first time since 2019, I kept a secret from you, and yes, it killed me on the inside. I also wasn't going to share it on here because my parents sign up for this Changeletter and I didn't want them to know. I don't want any of my family members to know, actually, so if you're related to me, STOP READING.
I'm serious.
This isn't a reverse psychology thing.
Just don't do it, because I will not talk to you about this subject, and if you bring it up, I'll pretend that I have no idea what the hell you're on.
Okay.
Family, just scroll past this whole intro section and onto the Changeletter main content, which will be 4 questions for you to take into your life and connect on the power of your money. No further preamble for you, respectfully and with love <3

The secret: Last march, I started writing a solarpunk romance novel.
And yesterday, I signed a BOOK DEAL for it!!! It's tentatively going to be released in a year!
I'm actually not going to say too much more about this until the announcement is live on Publisher's Marketplace, but if you want updates, you can go to solarpunk.fun and sign up for my author newsletter under a formerly-secret pen name over there. (If you're family, I WILL remove you. This is not a joke; I'm so serious)
If you have anyone interested in spreading the word, journalists, podcasters, book influencers, solarpunk influencers, book club leaders, Reese Witherspoon, other authors etc., please connect me to them.
I firmly believe that stories define the future, and we need way less dystopia and way more solarpunk.
Okay secret time over; now onto the power of our money!

CONNECT with these conversation prompts to reimagine a solarpunk world where we have a different relationship with money
Every CONNECT module, youβll get up to four prompts to connect with yourself, others, spirit, and systems.
Your mission is to take whatβs in these Changeletters and bring it into one of those dimensions. Remember to talk about these so they don't die dead in your inbox or else they will be very sad.
- Connect with self and systems: In our current society, money, time, and work can feel interchangeable. Do you believe the relationship of working for money is beneficial to you and to society? Why or why not?β
β
- Connect with self and others: When you participate in the circular/reuse economy (thrifting, Buy Nothing, mending, etc. vs. buying new), what are your greatest obstacles? Which of those do you think can remain as obstacles, and which do you want to change?
β
- Connect with others and systems: What ecosystems do you want to be part of building as you think about the future of money? (Block parties? Tool libraries? Bank account hacking billionaire's assets?) What is your first realistic step?
β
- Connect with spirit: Who would you be in a world without money? And who would you be with complete abundance; what would that look like?
One of the most profound discussions I had last night at Soapbox Seattle is that we have more agency than we think. Want to start a tool library? Great, lean a shovel against a tree and put a sign by it. Work as a barista? Great, stop charging people for non-dairy milk if you feel like the profit margins are made up. Especially if you work at a chain. Wish your neighborhood had more social connection? SAY HI TO A NEIGHBOR!
Money can be so much powerful, in a way that benefits us instead of billionaires, if we had a higher degree of trust amongst one another, and the good news is, that can truly start with you.
Love,β
Nivi (aka your new fav solarpunk author)
